Which Character Matches Your Zodiac Sign?

I enjoy using Zodiac signs as a fun way to help me design my characters. Even minor characters often have birthdays & zodiac signs assigned to them! Which characters from The Guardian match your sign? Do you resemble them at all?

Gabriel is a bold prophet from Brasa, an epicenter located in future Brazil. He’s fiercely protective of his people and not afraid to do what’s right. Even when the cards seem stacked against him, he’s determined to use his powers as a force for good. Aries seemed like a good choice for this outspoken, active do-gooder.

Iliya’s little sister Pamela is enthusiastic, sweet, and compassionate. She loves deeply and makes friends easily. She also enjoys luxury and has trouble giving it up! But she’s no superficial pushover—she has the heart of a bull and can tough through extreme circumstances when needed. Her courage and kindness always shine through. A spring birthday perfectly suits this cheerful yet stubborn girl!

Grayce is the prophet of P&C, located in future USA. She’s loud and proud—which can sometimes shock Iliya’s more traditional sensibilities. Grayce has deep compassion and a strong sense of self. She’s very friendly and generous, but she sticks to her guns, even if it means disappointing others. Above all, she’s loyal to her epicenter. Taurus seemed like a great match for her strength and loyalty.

Geminis are known for being intelligent and adaptable, with an energetic yet flighty quality. This perfectly describes both Nadia and Amithi—two beautiful, outgoing women from The Guardian. Nadia is a small-town character who gets caught up in God’s plans, but she never ceases to offer compassion and kindness. She may be a little flighty at times, but her deep love for her family never wavers. Reth’s sister Amithi can be superficial and materialistic, but she’s kind to those in need. Her love of aesthetic beauty and her adventurous spirit set her apart.

Cancer is a Zodiac sign that’s near and dear to my heart, since I have a few family members in this sign. Known to be deeply compassionate, this sign loves home and craves the comfort of family. At the same time, this sign is known for some big moods! Frank Canton is a generous soul who desperately wants to make a home of his own, but he can be short-sighted and selfish. We don’t see much of Abdullah (I’m not even sure if he’s named in canon), but he’s the prophet of Umea (in future Middle East) and champions peace above all else. (All the prophets have zodiac signs, even if they’re very minor characters, because every prophet was born on the 7th of a different month.)

Leos are known for loving the spotlight. In their own ways, Nikolina and Galena both encapsulate this fiery sign. Nikolina is the prophet from Euro (in future Europe) and advocates for workers’ rights. She’s not afraid to stand up to power and do what’s right, and she has no trouble speaking to a crowd! Galena, a healer from a small village, does her part to care for her community. She loves giving advice and isn’t afraid to try new things!

Virgo is my sign, so it’s perhaps not surprising that I assigned some great characters to be Virgos! Baq, Iliya’s younger brother, can be finicky and critical, but his deep love for his family supersedes everything. Hiroshi, the prophet from Toyosoni (in future Japan), is serious and practical, but he very generously dedicates his time and resources to help Iliya and Reth. Finally, Reth’s mother Opal (an oncologist) is also very practical and rational, and she generously provides for Iliya despite her reservations. She can sometimes make morally gray decisions, but it’s all in support of her family.

Reth’s father Kuron is warm, principled, and kind. A high-level executive in an epicenter spoke town, Kuron makes sound decisions and brings charismatic charm into every room he enters. We only briefly meet Kholwa in the book, but the prophet of Somton (in future South Africa) has a similar balanced, practical approach to her role. She brings similar charisma and sound judgment into her activism.

Though Scorpios sometimes get a bad rap, I’ve known this sign to have deep loyalty, compassion, and strength. Reth is an extremely important character in The Guardian, and some of the book is even written in his POV. He’s a deep thinker, a skilled writer, a charismatic speaker, and a kind soul who wants to make the world a better place. He strategizes intricate plans and has the determination to see them through. He feels as deeply as he thinks, and his emotions can sometimes take over. When he loves, he loves hard, like a crashing ocean wave. He’s one of my favorite love interests: flawed, yet sincere.

Jonamos is an activist from the small, isolated desert village of Ziya. He’s highly progressive and ready to push his village toward a more tolerant future. He has winsome courage, passionate idealism, and a deep drive toward social change. His adventurous spirit leads him to seek new experiences outside confines of his village when most of his community fears the outside world.

I love that the protagonist of the book is the same sign as some of the key antagonists! Iliya is undoubtedly the most important character in The Guardian. Her stubborn determination, strong sense of duty to her family, courage in the face of many obstacles, and dedication to her values define her. Capricorns are known to be hardworking and stubborn, so I felt this sign fit Iliya best. (I also imagine her to be a Sagittarius cusper, which would explain her traveling, adventurous side.)

Abrahov is a religious leader from the small, isolated village of Ziya. While he seems resistant to change at first, eventually he comes around because his duty to his village supersedes all.

Jian-min, the prophet from The Republic (in future China), is somewhat evil on the surface, but in his mind, he’s just being dutiful to his epicenter first and foremost. While he and Iliya seem worlds apart in their morality, both are dedicated to their communities at heart, and both are courageous in the face of danger.

Some of my favorite characters in the book are Aquariuses (perhaps not surprising since my husband is an Aquarius!) Alisha—Pan’s prophet (in future India) and Iliya’s BFF—thirsts for knowledge and seeks to use her intelligence for a good cause. She’s bubbly and enthusiastic, friendly and warm, and genius-level brilliant. Her unique approach melding magic & technology sets her apart as one of the most innovative prophets.

Vera, a journalist and editor who helps Iliya and Reth on their journeys, brings a similar bubbly enthusiasm to her role. She’s progressive and talented, and she uses her expertise to elevate marginalized voices. She was so fun to write!

Pisces is known for being especially connected to the spirit world, and I took that seriously when assigning this sign to my characters. Cassandra, Iliya’s mother, is a “seer” ravaged by her visions. Her inability to separate the mortal & spiritual worlds define her character. She’s compassionate, but undone by her grief and burdens.

Careem carries similar grief, but he turns his grief into kindness. He’s a sweet, generous soul and gives Iliya everything he can. Tenzin, a journalist who works with Vera, has a quiet, calm demeanor, a sweet and practical personality, and his spirituality is important to him. We don’t really see Grigori, Magpro’s prophet from future Russia, but I imagine him to be similarly sweet, compassionate, and connected to the spiritual world.
